Law Society of Ireland President, Kevin O'Higgins, extended the profession's sympathies to friends and families affected by the tragic loss of life and injury to young Irish students in Berkeley, California.

Speaking at the Parchment Ceremony of 61 newly-qualified solicitors on Thursday 18 June 2015, the President acknowledged that many of the solicitors and families present would have known personally, or through close connections, those who had died or were injured.

He said "these tragic deaths in Berkeley have touched us all and I want to record, on behalf of everyone in the Law Society, that our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to everyone who has been affected by this catastrophe."
