Aim and Objectives
The object of this seminar is to provide practitioners with an introduction to Energy Law in Ireland. While primarily focusing on energy regulation there will be an overview of the relevant Environmental and Planning backdrop against which energy sector players must operate. Energy law is a complex and highly regulated area but there are opportunities for practitioners in this emerging sector. It is of particular relevance to practitioners dealing with financiers, local authorities and other regulators, landowners and developers involved in the energy sector such as wind farms, electricity, wave & tidal projects.

Deborah Spence, Arthur Cox, Dublin.
Deborah is head of the Arthur Cox Environment and Planning Group. Deborah’s practice extends to all aspects of environmental and planning law including corporate regulatory compliance, contaminated sites and waste related liability, permitting and licensing issues and environmental impact assessment. In particular on the energy side, Deborah has been extensively involved with Ireland’s first major bio-energy development, with both private and public waste to energy facilities, offshore energy projects, windfarms, combined heat and power plants and emissions trading.
Alex Mclean, Arthur Cox, Dublin.
Alex is head of the Arthur Cox Projects and Energy Group. Alex has 15 years energy sector experience in Ireland, the UK, the Middle East and Australia, with expertise in major electricity and gas projects; acquisitions; financings; corporatisations and privatisations; energy trading; regulatory reform and energy market design. Since 2001 Alex has advised on the development, financing, acquisition and/or regulation of most of the largest energy projects in the State, as well as having advised on the implementation of BETTA; SEM; Gas Entry Exit; NTS Exit Reforms and upstream petroleum regulation. Prior to joining Arthur Cox, Alex spent six years in the Projects Group of a major Australian law firm.
