Course Objectives
This well established and highly regarded diploma is designed to familiarise participants with the law in relation to the provision of financial services in Ireland.  Notwithstanding the national and global financial crises, the financial sector in Ireland continues to be a major employer, particularly the investment funds, banking and insurance sectors. The area is constantly subject to major regulatory and statutory changes at both a European and national level.

This diploma will consider the general regulatory framework for the financial services industry in this jurisdiction before considering in more detail discrete areas of practice such as investment funds, banking, insurance and pensions.  Recent changes in the law will be considered, such as the new Anti-Money Laundering obligations and the Credit Institutions (Stabilisation) Act, 2010 which proposes to reform the Irish banking system.  The economic downturn and its effects on financial services will be analysed, together with any corporate governance issues arising.

Course Structure
The course runs over six months and is divided into four modules:
  • Module One: An Introduction to the Regulation of the Financial Services Industry
  • Module Two: Funds, Insurance and Pensions
  • Module Three: Banking, Capital Markets and Derivatives
  • Module Four: Ethical Issues
