Now in its seventh year, this well-established and highly regarded diploma provides a comprehensive understanding of employment law, covering all aspects of the employer/employee relationship from recruitment through to termination. This area of practice is undergoing significant changes with the ongoing Workplace Relations Reform Programme and we will incorporate contributions from leading practitioners, stakeholders and decision makers to highlight how those developments are likely to impact your practice. We also consider recent legislative and case law developments and focus on areas relevant to the current economic downturn, for example redundancies, unfair dismissals, employer insolvency and, finally, corporate restructuring and the Transfer of Undertakings regulations. An ancillary aim of the course is to demonstrate the effectiveness of using devices such as the iPad as an educational tool and a mobile learning device, meaning that you can access your course any time and anywhere. A particular aim of the course will be to provide learning opportunities to enhance solicitor/client communication skills. Students will get an opportunity to conduct an initial client interview with a ‘standardised’ client, who has been trained to perform the client role and assess solicitor communication skills. 10% of the final mark is allocated to participation in this client communication workshop.
The programme outcomes of this course are to equip practitioners with:
- A comprehensive understanding of employment law and practice in this Jurisdiction
- An appreciation of recent practice and procedural developments arising out of the Workplace Relations Reform Programme
- A knowledge of recent judicial decisions and legislative developments
